2. Basics A pronoun is a word used in place of a noun or another pronoun.
The word that a pronoun stands for is called its antecedent.
It may be found in the same sentence or in an earlier sentence.

4. Personal Pronouns
Personal pronouns refer to the first person (I), second person (you) and third person (he, she, it).
Ex: I think you should be nicer to him.

5. Possessive Pronouns
A possessive pronoun shows ownership and belonging.
Used to replace possessive nouns: mine, yours, hers, his, its, ours, theirs
Example: That taco is mine!

6. Possessive Pronouns as Adjectives
The following possessive pronouns can also be used as adjectives to modify nouns: my, your, his, her, its, our, their
Example: That is my hot sauce.

7. Interrogative Pronouns
An interrogative pronoun is used to ask a question.
who, whom, which, what, whose
Example: Whose sombrero is this?
Example: What can we do while we wait for the Mariachi band?

8. Demonstrative Pronouns
A demonstrative pronoun points out specific people, places, things or ideas.
This, those ,that, those
Did you get her new CD? I’m dying to hear that.
Read the instructions, even those in small print.
Sometimes these words are used as adjectives if they come right before the noun!

An indefinite pronoun does not refer to a specific person or thing.
Someone left the phone off the hook.
The snowstorm closed most of the schools.
