2 The First People  The first people were the Lenni Lenape group.  They built homes out of wood and bark.  The Lenni Lenape lived in longhouses during the winter, in the summer they lived in round homes called wigwams.  They planted corn, squash, and beans.  The Lenni Lenape group hunted animals for food.  They were peaceful people.  They were friendly with the European settlers who arrived in the 1600s.

10 Community and Religion in the Colony Pennsylvania welcomed many different faiths. Penn built the colony so that Quakers and other could worship freely. Quakers were members of a religious and community called Society of Friends. Quakers met each month.
