Our Philosophy ❖ Every child has the ability to learn in diverse ways ❖ High expectations lead to high achievement ❖ Learning is a team effort starting with students and supported by parents, teachers, etc. ❖ Learning lasts for a lifetime

Goals for 6th Grade Students ➔ Become more independent ➔ Get organized (ISN, folders, agenda) ◆ Bring all supplies to class ◆ Lockers ➔ Turn in homework on time ◆ Written in planner and posted on webpage

Grading ❖ Homework ❖ Formative Assessments (DIGIs) ❖ Summative Assessments (Quizzes/Tests)

Standards-Based Grading ❖ On assessments, students will earn a grade for each learning target Students are assessed on the 4-3-2-1 scale and their scores are converted to a percentage in the online gradebook

How Can Parents Help? ❖ Stay informed with what is going on in class via emails and/or webpage ❖ Talk with your child about what they are learning in class and discuss those concepts with them ❖ Use the following resources at home ➢ ISNs (Interactive Student Notebook) ➢ Online Resources: Khan Academy, IXL.com, Teacher websites, Online textbook ❖ Promote good study skills

ISN: Interactive Student Notebook ❖ Homework support ❖ Study tool/review skills ❖ Make math meaningful & memorable ❖ Parents can see what we are working on

Lunch & Learn/After School Support ❖ Information about this is posted in the classroom ❖ Optional ❖ Extra help ❖ Retake contracts and testing ❖ Make-up work

Lunch & Learn ❖ Students must get a lunch & learn pass from their teacher in advance ❖ Heupel: Monday, Wednesday, Thursday ❖ Herkenhoff: by appointment ❖ Hottelman: Wednesdays or by appointment

Retake Contracts ❖ Optional for students that score a 2.5 or below on one or more learning targets on a Summative Assessment ❖ Literacy Across the Content Area are not eligible ❖ Students are responsible for setting these up ❖ Students must complete the practice work ❖ The goal is to help students master each objective
