01/28/15 (B) Writing Warm-Up Vocabulary Set 4 F-2 Book Club Journal Entries and Check-Ins Students will read & demonstrate comprehension of a variety of fictional texts. Students will read to determine the meanings of unfamiliar words & phrases.

Writer’s Warm-up Grab your Writer’s Notebooks for the following warm-up: Create a short story that includes the following: Setting: A society that does not have any television, video games, cell phones, wifi, etc. (Cars and house phones are the extent of technology.) Character: Bored child who wishes life wasn’t just so boring. Other: A watchdog and a toll booth.

Milo thinks life is VERY BORING. Until the tollbooth shows up in his house and he is able to go to the Island of Conclusions (you get there by jumping). Learns about time from a ticking watch dog named Tock. Embarks on a quest to rescue Rhyme and Reason (two twins who like to rhyme and reason with each other). Very “punny” – A favorite! Quarter 3! Always remember to check Ms. Watkins’s website and Google Classroom for daily PowerPoints, handouts, etc. All summative assignments have been listed on the whiteboard and hold tentative dates (snow days may change them). Please be aware of these dates. ROAR!

ROAR R: Respect others—Golden Rule. O: Maintain ownership of your work. This means checking Google Classroom or the Class Website to see what you missed on your own—not asking me at the beginning of class. A: Achievement: Keep track of your missing assignments and make-ups. Keep up your already hard work! R: Be responsible for yourself and your assignments. Classroom expectations: Class bells, silent warm-ups, bringing materials, completing assignments.

Writer’s Notebooks: Book Club Check-In Menu Flip to two brand new pages in your notebook. Left side: Staple your Book Club Check-In Menu. Right side: Title: Book Club Check-In 1A Save 10 pages (front & back) with a sticky note. These will be used for the Check-Ins.
