WHAT IS A FAMILY TREE Definition: a genealogical chart showing the ancestry, descent, and relationship of all members of a family or other genealogical group.

LAYMAN’S DEFINITION A family tree is a record of family members and relationships. It records the names of individual relations and describes their connection. This information is charted down through a series of lines and connections that branch out from the earliest known relative or source. These branches link together to form what is figuratively known as a "tree."

THE PROCESS Gather Names Gather ages and/or dates Place in chronological order Separate Maternal side from Paternal Color code or keep sides separated Created sub headings for children Begin with oldest known relative End with youngest or with self
