2  Since 1946 Zonta has partnered with the United Nations to improve the Status of Women  Zontians have donated to projects benefiting more than 2 million women from 37 different countries

3  1:3 women are affected by violence  Gender based violence begins early frequently girls are <16 years old  64 million girls are child brides,  140 million women have undergone genital mutilation  66 million girls are not in schools Working with young people to break stereotyping and preventing violence is a smart move.

4  Delaying early Marriage  Preventing Violence through education  Improving Women’s Health

5  United Nations suggests the programs  Zonta evaluates projects  Zonta funds the projects.  UN agency administers the project with a transparent allocated 8-10 % administrative cost.

8 Funding $986,000. Objective:  To prevent and reduce gender discrimination and violence against women and girls. To be implemented through the Girl Guide and Scout movement. (WAGGGS)  UN Women will provide opportunities for Zontians to participate as speakers and engage with youth leaders.  Zonta members can advocate for the use of the curriculum within their own areas.  An estimated 5 million children and young people will take part in the curriculum by 2020

9 Objective: To reduce early marriage and early pregnancy in a critical mass of communities and departments in the 4 regions of Niger. Outcomes: 25,000 adolescent girls will be reached over 2 yrs with 400,000 members of their community benefitting from increased awareness.

10 Objectives: To have a nation free of HIV AIDS and new HIV infection amongst children, adolescents women and families: to support the national strategy for one stop centres and to invest in community based prevention of violence against women and children Expected Outcomes: Build an HIV free generation and empower women and girls and claim their right to safety and dignity

12  Objective: To contribute to the elimination of obstetric and traumatic fistula and the reduction of maternal morbidity and sexual violence against the women in Liberia.  Expected Outcomes: To improve the health and reintegrate women back into society

13 This project is currently on hold due to the Ebola Epidemic.

14 Objective: To create a school environment for adolescent girls and boys across Hanoi that is free from gender-based violence. Expected Outcomes: Schools in Hanoi will have increased capacity to promote gender equal norms, and prevent and respond to gender based violence in and around schools.
