2. Decline Of Athens  As Athens expanded, resentment gathered, creating war between Athens and Sparta.  This was called the Peloponnesian War which lasted from 431 to 404 B.C.  Sparta was victorious while Athens never recovered.

3. The Historians  In the fourth and fifth centuries B.C. the Greeks made historical writing.  Herodotus searched for the reason for the Persian wars.  Thucydides searched for the reason of Athens power and war against Sparta.

4. The Greek Philosophers  Socrates was a philosopher who used the philosophy of wisdom.  Plato preserved Socrates’ teachings and he also used philosophy of freedom and conscience.  Aristotle wrote about logic, politics, ethnics, biology, and rhetoric.

5. The Great Playwrights  Sophocles wrote Antigone Oedipus at Colonus and Oedipus rex  Euripides wrote trojan trilogies The bachae and the phoenician women  Political satire,lysisttrisata The achanians and clouds are written by aristophanes.
