2 John Brown Responsible for the arsenal raid at Harper’s Ferry. He wanted to arm the slaves. He was unsuccessful.

3 Abraham Lincoln did not fully support John Brown’s raid in Harper’s Ferry. While he agreed with John Brown in thinking slavery wrong, he said it did not excuse violence, bloodshed, and treason.

4 Abraham Lincoln He was the first Republican President. Abraham Lincoln wanted to focus on stopping the spread of slavery.

5 South Carolina was the first State to secede from the Union.

6 Sam Houston Sam Houston was removed from the governorship in Texas because he opposed secession.

7 Southern delegates met in Montgomery, Alabama to form the Confederate States of America.
