Pakistan is an agriculture base 2 nd economy generator after Service Sector AGRICULTURE has 23 % share in GDP LIVESTOCK has 55.1 % to agricultural (11.5% in GDP) Overall worth value of Rs. 1350 billion Livestock is more valuable than crops sector (6.1% more) 35-40 million rural populations Sector Growth rate 3.7 against 4.3% previous year DEPARTMENT OF LIVESTOCK PRODUCTION & MANAGEMENT 6

The agriculture sector remained the dominant sector with its job absorption ability and it still absorbs 44 percent of the country’s labour force. It gives a kick-start to aggregate demand for industrial goods and services as well. The agriculture sector consists of crops, livestock, fishing and forestry sub-sectors. The crop subsector is further divided into major crops Growth is decreasing (5% in 1990s) to 2.1 % (2011) DEPARTMENT OF LIVESTOCK PRODUCTION & MANAGEMENT 8

The share of livestock in agriculture has increased from 29.8 percent to 55.1 percent in the decade period. The price of livestock items has remained a major contributor to inflationary pressures in Pakistan’s economy It is a highly labour–intensive and job creating sector.
