2 nd – 6 th Rockstars April 14 th – 18th Weekly Reminders 4th Grade Literacy – In Literacy class students will continue to learn comprehension skills and strategies to become better readers. This week students will be learning about ways to identify a fable and the characteristics of that genre. Students will also become more familiar with personification. 5th Grade Literacy - In Literacy class students will build upon their prior knowledge of comprehension skills and strategies to become better readers. This week students will be able to identify generalization statements after read a passage. BCMS Parent University This is for 6th grade students and parents! April 24th, 5:30-7:00pm Students were given a handout at school. Common Assessment Grades 2-6 are taking learning checks this week. Please get a good nights sleep! 2nd Grade Math - My 2nd graders will be reading, writing, and identifying fractions for halves, thirds, and fourths. They will also be comparing and ordering and adding and subtracting fractions. 3rd Grade Math - My third graders will be reading, writing, and identifying equivalent fractions, writing fractions in the simplest form, comparing, ordering and adding and subtracting like fractions. 2nd Grade Social Studies - My 2nd grade class will be studying about ancient India and the Indus civilization. 3rd Grade Social Studies - My 3rd graders will be studying about Ancient Rome and the Romans civilization. 4th Grade Social Studies - My two 4th grade classes will be studying about modern Kentucky during the 2nd half of the 20th century. 2nd Grade Literacy I can recognize the plot of the story as the action that moves the story along. I can describe the theme of a fiction story. I can develop vocabulary to use when reading, writing, and speaking. 3rd Grade Literacy This week will be different for 3rd grade. 3rd through 6th grade students will be participating in the Common Assessment. It is an assessment our district completes to help prepare the students for the KPREP testing at the end of the year. This practice assessment allows the students to get familiar with the format of the test, the length of the test, and their testing arrangements. The Common Assessment will occur on Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday. Therefore, we will have an adjusted schedule and our literacy class will not run a normal Daily 5 schedule. During the time we will have for 3rd grade literacy we will work on poetry.

Bowen Science classes are learning about the earth's systems. Language Arts classes are learning how to write informative papers such as research papers. **Please pay special attention each week for information regarding activities at the middle school. This info will all come fast and furious these last 8 weeks of school.** Math- For the next two weeks in math we will be learning about angles. We will be measuring and drawing angles as well as understanding how angles turn. Science- We will be learning about the states of matter and the changes in each state of matter. We will also be studying mass, volume, density and vacuum. Due to Common Assessment throughout the building, our class times will be shortened this week, but we will Rock On every minute of the day. Writer's Workshop Writer's Workshop Our authors are still working on turning Prose To Poetry. We will continue to master the art of poetry this week. Linder 5th grade Social Studies Fifth grade will be taking the common assessment this week. They will also be participating in Junior Achievement on Wednesday. 6th grade Social Studies I can list the ideal qualities of a legendary Chinese emperor. 5th grade Math I can apply the properties of right, isosceles, and equilateral triangles. I can apply the properties of parallelogram, rhombus and trapezoid. This week in math, we will be learning about area of polygons. We will start the week by working in groups to identify and graph the area of different triangles. We will then venture off to the wild journey of finding area of parallelograms and trapezoids! How exciting! Finding area of all different types of polygons will end this unit and prepare for surface area and volume! Get your minds ready and excited for rocking with area!!
