2. The United Nations was formed on October 24, 1945 after The Second World War by 51 nations dedicated to preserving world peace and security.

3. Today, 192 states are currently active in the UN, with operations such as sustainable development, environment and refugees protection, disaster relief, counter terrorism, disarmament and non-proliferation, to promoting democracy, human rights, governance, economic and social development and international health, clearing landmines, expanding food production, and more, in order to achieve its goals

The UN has many bodies within it, such as the Security Council, in charge of international peace, the General Assembly, the main deliberative body, Trusteeship Council, they help nations who are trying to establish themselves, Economic and Social Council, who coordinates economic and social issues within the UN, The International Court of Justice, who is in charge of prosecuting those who have committed crimes against humanity. The Secretariat, who is in charge of day to day activities of the UN.

5. Security Council The Security Council is in charge of international security and peace. When a threat is brought forth against the council they try to shoot it down as peacefully as possible, if violence should ensue their aim is to end it as soon as possible. They can place economic sanctions, enforcement measures, or collective military action against a nation. The five permanent members of the Council ( United States, United Kingdom, Russia, China, France) have the power of “veto” which act as a negative vote when used

6. Today, the UN is led by Ban Ki-Moon, they have several operations currently going on, a Peace Keeping operation in Cyprus, a Stabilization Mission in Haiti, Missions in Sudan, Liberia, and Darfur.

7. I think the UN is doing a fantastic job, comparatively to its predecessor, the League of Nations, they offer quick and efficient help, like all organizations, they need have some things to work on, ex. The International Court of Justice, but all the success out shine the slight dullness of this body.
