1 United nations and NATO AIM: To understand the purpose of the United Nations and NATO Classwork Starter: What is meant by Human Rights?

2 1.No one should be held in slavery. 2.No one should be tortured. 3.Everyone has the right to freedom of opinion and expression of that opinion in any way they wish. 4.All human beings are born free and equal and should treat all people as if they are brothers. 5.Everyone has the right to a standard of living that allows for good health. 6.Everyone has the right to wellbeing including food, clothing, housing and medical care. 7.Everyone has the right to be taken care of if they are unemployed, sick, disabled, widowed, old or unable to look after themselves. 8.Everyone has the right to freedom of thought, conscience and religion. 9.Everyone has the right to education. 6 Turn to page 73 ‘Religion and life Issues’ Read the information on the UNSC & NATO Answer the following QNS in full sentences: 5.What work do United Nations Security Council do? 6.Explain what the peacekeepers do. 7.What is NATO? 8.Explain their main aims. 9.What is the difference between United Nations and NATO? 10.Read ‘International Day of Peace’ at the bottom of page 72. YOUR TASK: Plan an event in school to mark the International Day of Peace and Create a poster to advertise it.

7 What do you think the flag design & colour represents? The blue color was chosen as "the opposite of red, the war color" The olive branches are a symbol for peace (from biblical times), and the world map represents all the people of the world. Extension Task Design a new logo to represent The universal Declaration of Human Rights or the United Nations.
