LESS OF THIS MORE OF THIS Team Cohesiveness Members being forced to do unwanted duties Emphasis is on cooperation versus competition Dominance by individual members Each team member must feel welcomed and honored Inability to resolve conflicts and differences; avoiding differences Differences of opinion should be expected…all members are encouraged to address the issues and problems under consideration
14
LESS OF THIS MORE OF THIS Team Cohesiveness Continued.. Competition among team members A team conflict resolution system - process must be learned by the team Lack of success; not completing or implementing tasks/idea The team must sense achievement, learning, and/or task completion Not all members feel their contributions are honored All members, including parents, actively contribute. Group seeks information from all members
15
Effective Team Member Behaviors As a team develops and member needs become integrated with team goals, there will be less self- oriented behavior and more task-oriented behavior. The following increases cohesiveness: Agreement on mission, beliefs and values Encouraging others Giving information and sharing ideas and offering facts Seeking information, idea, facts, and opinions by asking questions Clarifying and elaborating by interpreting information shared by others and suggesting alternatives
16
Effective Team Member Behaviors Continued… As appropriate, keeping track of information and ideas by summarizing, offering a decision, recording information Taking responsibility for assigned tasks that must be carried out independent of the group. Resolving differences by compromising or getting the group members to explore differences Recognizing that content areas, roles and responsibilities may differ All members continue to learn and demonstrate behaviors consistently
17
Let’s Plan a Trip… Now work with your group to plan a trip to anywhere – all expenses paid! This time use what your team has learned about increasing Team Cohesiveness & Effective Team Member Behaviors when planning your group’s trip
