STRATEGYTHINKING MAPS STRATEGYTHINKING MAPS 1. Finding Main Idea--a sentence that tells what the passage is mostly about. Circle Map, Bubble Map, Tree Map (whole text) 7. Finding Word Meaning in Context-- isolating unfamiliar words in the text and searching for clues about the meaning, embedded in the text. Multi-Flow Map, Flow Map, Brace Map 2. Recalling Facts & Details--factual information from the text or specific details from the selection. Circle Map, Flow Map, Tree Map 8. Drawing Conclusions & Making Inferences--your assumptions about the text, although not explicitly stated in the text. Multi-Flow Map, Brace Map, Bridge Map 3. Understanding Sequence--understanding how events or details are told in order. Bubble Map(add arrows), Flow Map 9. Distinguishing Between Fact & Opinion- -assessing what can be proved and what cannot in the text. Multi-Flow, Tree Map 4. Recognizing Cause and Effect--the cause is whatever occurred to make something happen; the effect is what happened as a result of the cause. Multi-Flow Map, Brace Map 10.
