Envisaged government policy Agro-industrial parks DRC has partnered with South Africa to set up a pilot agro-industrial park at Bunkanga Lonzo (First harvest expected in December 2014) Bunkanga Lonzo is an integrated park, comprising a mixed project of industrial, commercial and residential developments (roads, water supply, power lines, housing, hospitals, schools) Initial investment: $83 millions, 75000 hectares Access to a wide range of geographical markets due to its strategic location (220 km in the East of Kinshasa)

Remaining constraints The investment needed to support these initiatives for the entire agricultural sector is enormous Current agricultural budget share is less than 3% Government's capacity to implement effective agricultural policies Policymaker-research cooperation is the key to enhance evidence based decision making in the Congo However, this cooperation is constrained by the availability of reliable data
