Agri-Pinoy The strategic framework for all functions and programs of the Department of Agriculture

Agri-Pinoy Principles and practices for the optimum development of Philippine resources, natural and human, to meet Philippine goals in agriculture and fisheries

Agri-Pinoy Four Guiding Principles Food security and self-sufficiency Sustainable agriculture and fisheries Natural resource management Local development

Agri-Pinoy Four Guiding Principles Food security and self-sufficiency Accessible, affordable, safe and nutritious food (especially staple food) for all Filipinos. Sapat, ligtas at abot-kayang pagkain para sa lahat ng Pilipino. Minimize our dependence on food imports.

Agri-Pinoy Four Guiding Principles Sustainable agriculture and fisheries Consider the limited carrying capacity of our natural resources while increasing the capabilities of our human resources. Sustainability is both ecological and economic.

Agri-Pinoy Four Guiding Principles Natural resource management Manage our natural resource endowments and “optimize” their development, to enhance their competitive advantage while insuring that they are not exhausted.

Agri-Pinoy Four Guiding Principles Local development Agriculture and fisheries are site specific. Agri-fisheries development should be integrated into local development plans, using an eco-system framework of governance and development.

Agri-Pinoy Check List Broad-based Farm to Table Sustainable Resilient Partnership

Agri-Pinoy Is broad-based Why? The increasing demand from an increasing population requires an increase in productivity and profitability of the broadest number of producers. We also need a broader and more varied base to insure sustainability and resilience in the face of climate change and changes in the global market

Agri-Pinoy Is broad-based Implications: The DA’s services and resources must be equitably and proportionately allocated to small, medium, and large players The DA’s services and resources must address the specific needs of the various stakeholders

Agri-Pinoy Addresses the whole system from Farm to Table The “Farm” represents interventions in production, from soil and water management, extension, seeds and fertilizers, post-harvest processing, credit and marketing etc. The “Table” represents interventions to insure food security, safety, and quality for the consumers

Agri-Pinoy is based on sustainable farming systems Minimize dependence on imports to meet national food requirements Promote and develop technological interventions that increase productivity while insuring sustainability Recognize the limits of the carrying capacity of our natural resources, while increasing the capability of our human resources

Agri-Pinoy is based on sustainable farming systems Sustainability includes preparing the successor generation Promote appreciation of agriculture especially among young people e.g. Gulayan sa Paaralan in partnership with DepEd, learning lessons from 4-H clubs and other rural youth programs

Agri-Pinoy Integrates the need for resilience Resilience and sustainability are both ecological and economic, addressing both bio-physical and market changes Globalization of markets challenges us to become globally competitive across the whole supply chain 80% of our production sites are vulnerable to climate change impacts

Agri-Pinoy Integrates the need for resilience Empowerment of farmers through technical and skills upgrading, including timely information about risks Diversification of crops, farm systems, and value-adding technologies

Agri-Pinoy Works through partnerships Partnerships with national government agencies, especially the Convergence partners - DAR and DENR. Participation is open to other national agencies. Partnerships with LGUs who have the responsibility to insure food security and self-sufficiency. Partnership with DILG to facilitate the integration of agricultural and fisheries development in the local development plans

Agri-Pinoy Works through partnerships Partnerships with farmers and fishers organizations, NGOs, and other stakeholders including business Promoting the formation of program-based Agri-Pinoy partnerships at the local, regional, and national level

Agri-Pinoy Challenges to the DA Convergence among DA units and agencies Professionalism within the DA family Governance: Transparency, Accountability, Participation

Agri-Pinoy Bridging the gap Touching the heart Our stakeholders, especially the grassroots, must experience our sincerity and concern, so that they will trust us and respond to our call to actively participate in Agri-Pinoy.

Agri-Pinoy Focus our minds to deliver results Pagkaing sapat Magsasakang angat Tagumpay nating lahat
