About Stanley Hupfeld Academy… We are dedicated to providing highly effective learning opportunities for all students.

Mentoring provides the opportunity for you to connect with a student who needs a positive adult role model.
5
Scheduling – * Reading instruction occurs each day from 8:30- 10:00 a.m. school wide. *Mentors should make their prearranged visits after this block of time. *It is recommended that you try to come the same day of the week at the same time (if possible). *If you need to change your pre-arranged time please e-mail the teacher or call Christy Savage.
6
Safety- * In order to provide a safe environment it is essential that all visitors check in and out in the mentor notebook at the front office with each visit. *IF a drill or alarm sounds during your visit, please listen to the directions given over the intercom. (If you are in an outside area and we have a “lock down” drill. Please take your child into the building immediately. If we have a fire drill, please report to administration on the playground.) *Drill Information will be posted in both the quiet mentor room and the active mentor room. SAFETY FIRST!
7
Building the Relationship- Connect with students by finding out about their interests and abilities. Some ways to do this are to play a board game, a basketball game, walk the track or have lunch together.
8
Mentoring Matters Focus of Time- We encourage mentors to spend one hour per week with their mentee. At least half of the time should be spent on an academic activity. This focus demonstrates to the student that you value their education. Focus on Learning!
9
Calling All Mentors Academic Focus Teachers will supply you with assignments and ideas on how to assist your mentee. * Additional materials are available in the Quiet Mentor Room..)
10
Eagle Expectations = Positive Behaviors Please encourage students to be responsible for their own actions. We will be working diligently on the following expectations: Be Respectful Be Responsible & Be Ready to Learn
11
MENTOR STARS When students exhibit positive behavior they are given a STAR. If your mentee exhibits these qualities you will have a special “blue” Mentor STAR to give them. Place the student’s name on the STAR and let the child know specifically what they did to earn the STAR. *STARS will be available at the front office when you check-in. (Limit one STAR for each visit. Students cannot “ask for” the STAR.)
12
Confidentiality- Remember, information that you may find out about a student or their home life is confidential information. This includes, but is not limited to, learning levels, relationship issues and family needs.
13
Other Confidential Information includes: * grades, * disciplinary actions, * special education status, * test results, * attendance records If you have concerns about a specific incident or situation and you would like to discuss it with an adult at the school, please contact Mrs. Acers, the school counselor or the student’s classroom teacher
