By: Ms. Bruce, School Counselor

* Good question! * The LEAP test measures whether each student has gained the knowledge and skills in the subject for their grade. * Scored with Advanced, Mastery, Basic, Approaching Basic, and Unsatisfactory in English/Language Arts, Math, Science, and Social Studies * Will you answer every question correctly?? * NO! Very few people get all of the questions right.

* Get a good night’s sleep! * Eat a good breakfast * Avoid sodas and junk food, like candy * Approach the test with CONFIDENCE! * Don’t doubt yourself – be POSITIVE! * If you think you can, YOU WILL!!!!

* Take your Time – Do Not Rush! * There is NO PRIZE for finishing first. * Do NOT panic! * If you don’t know every question, it is okay. * Read the ENTIRE question and ALL answer choices before you mark your answer. * Pace Yourself – do not spend too much time on one problem – do your best and move on

* Listen to directions carefully * Read the answers carefully * Read the questions carefully * Look for KEY words and phrases – pay attention to those words so you can find out what the question is asking you to find * Do NOT leave ANYTHING blank * Answer everything – there’s no penalty for answering incorrectly

* SLOOOOOWWWWW down * It is not a race to see who finishes first! * You make careless errors when you rush * Think about it: * Would you rather take your time NOW and pass or rush through and fail and be in 4 th grade all over again next year?

* Can your test score be lowered if you don’t bubble in answers correctly? * YES!!!!! * Make sure you bubble in the entire circle * Use the pencil that is given to you * Keep track of skipped answers (if any) and make sure your questions and answers match up on the answer sheet * Every so often, check that you are on the right question on your answer document.

* Guessing is the LAST thing you should do, not the first * If you do not know the answer, make an EDUCATED GUESS * Eliminate any wrong answers * if you eliminate at least 2 wrong answers, your chance of getting the right answer is greater * Never leave a blank answer…an educated guess is better than no answer at all

* It’s perfectly normal to feel a little nervous…it just shows that you care about how you do! * This test is used to measure what you know, not to make you feel bad because of what you don’t know. * Slow down and RELAX * Take a few deep breaths * REMEMBER: Very few people get all the questions right * Take the test ONE day at a TIME

* Think you’re done after all of your answers are bubbled in and answers written? * NOPE!!! * Take the TIME to go back and check your work…making sure your handwriting is readable and your answers are bubbled in correctly. * REMEMBER: There is no reward for getting done first!!!

* Checked everything? * Checked everything again? * Checked everything for the third time? * Read over what you wrote…does it make sense? * Sit quietly * Please be respectful of the students around you and do not make any noise

* Think POSITIVE! * Do your BEST! * Remember these tips… http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=07wxi_ARkZY
