M60 Day 7 2.3b Graphing Project #3
2
Review Determine whether or not the given number is a solution to the given equation by substituting and then evaluating.
3
Review Solve the linear equations. (remember the objective is to isolate the variable - +1 coefficient)
4
Solving Linear Equations using Multiplication and Division 2.3b
5
ax=c Linear equation – degree of 1 Ultimate goal – get the variable alone on either side of the = (equal sign). Isolate the variable. Ask: “Self, what operation(s) are happening to the variable?”
6
Inverse (opposite) Operation The 5 sitting next to the variable means multiplication To isolate the variable use the opposite of MULTIPLICATION which is DIVISION. Divide both sides by 5. It is important to show the process on both sides of the equation.
7
One step process… Divide both sides by the fraction or multiply by the reciprocal of the fraction – the operations are the same.
8
One step: Try it…
9
Solving Linear Equations: ax+b=c 2.4
10
Procedure for multi-step solving… Combine like terms Add the opposite to MOVE constants away from the variable ReMOVE the coefficient of the variable using Multiply/divide. GOAL: to get a +1 coeffience. CHECK your answer.
11
Try it… Solve each of the linear equations.
12
Coming up… Quiz #3 10/25 – Will contain 1-2 problems from Day 1 Day 8 Reading Guide (Bb) 2.4
13
Exit Ticket Solve for the variables. Show the process steps and check answers. 1. 2. 3.
