In the 3 rd Presidential election of 1800 there were two political parties going head to head. - Federalists - Democratic-Republicans

Thomas Jefferson and Aaron Burr ( both Democratic Republicans ) were tied with 73 electoral college votes. Someone better break this tie! Let’s call Congress!

The House of Representatives voted to break the tie. It took us 36 votes but we finally have a decision. Jefferson is the new president! It’s about time!

This was the first time that one party had replaced another in power in the United States. Goodbye, Federalists! Goodbye, Federalists!
