The children can then use the sounds they know to sound out the word and then blend the sounds to read. For example: c – a – t becomes cat f – r – o – g becomes frog b – e – ll becomes bell

However – not all words can be sounded out - these are ‘tricky words’. The first set of tricky words your child will learn to read are:

Reading Books Keep reading time relaxed and comfortable, in a quiet corner with the television turned off.  Listen to your child read as often as possible.  If they get stuck on a word, ask them to sound it out.  Read the same book as many times as possible.  The more they read, the better they get, the more confident they get.  Talk about what they have read.

Reading at School Reading starts as soon as they get into school in the morning! We have guided reading sessions every morning from 8.50 until 9.10. During the week the children will have a reading session with the teacher, with the TA, will have book activities and a maths activity. The children will also have an individual read with the teacher or TA when their book will be changed.

Reading Clinic Hot tips on listening to your child read. Want to know how to help your child read. Make an appointment to see Mrs Mistry any morning between 8.50 and 9.10.
