What Is MONAHRQ? Windows-based software from the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality (AHRQ) that can help you and your organization create your own website-based, comparative health care performance reports. Evidence-based – uses measures, data sources, and reporting techniques that are based on the latest research Quick – generates websites and reports in hours or days, not months Easy – designed to be intuitive so no training is needed to use it Flexible – allows customization to ensure that the websites and reports are relevant Free – provided by AHRQ at no cost to anyone who wants to produce health care performance websites and reports The purpose of MONAHRQ is to help increase transparency by disseminating evidence-based information that is understandable and useful for improving health care safety, quality, and affordability. Who Uses MONAHRQ? Who uses MONAHRQ to create websites and reports? ► Hospitals, hospital systems, and hospital associations ► Nursing homes and nursing home organizations ► State agencies ► Public health departments ► Business, community, or multistakeholder alliances ► Others who are involved in health care quality improvement Who is likely to use websites and reports created with MONAHRQ? ► Providers, such as hospitals, nursing homes, medical groups, and others ► Patients, family members, and the general public, including media ► State and local agency staff and others involved in public policy ► Researchers and analysts ► Private and public sector purchasers and payers, including health plans and self-insured employers and union trusts 3

What Value Can You Get From Reports Created With MONAHRQ? Patients, Family Members, and Consumers Use the reports to learn about other patients’ experiences, safety, quality, and relative affordability of hospitals and nursing homes in their area. Search for doctors and other health care professionals and learn about the hospitals with which they are affiliated. Easily email or share via social media the eye-catching infographic that shows local safe surgery rates, national facts about unsafe surgery, and how to reduce your risk. Use the reports to make informed decisions and ask questions about their health care. Employers, Purchasers, and Payers Use the reports to compare hospital and nursing home performance and utilization rates to assess relative safety, quality, and affordability. Apply this information to contract negotiations, as it reveals gaps to address and highlights top performers whose best practices should replicated by others. Compare health care performance and utilization at a single point in time, and how utilization of care is changing over time (trends). Easily share with colleagues (email, slides, etc.) the eye-catching infographic on safe surgery that shows local rates and national facts about the prevalence, risk and cost 4

What Value Can You Get From Reports Created With MONAHRQ? (cont.) Hospital Leaders, Doctors, Nursing Homes, and Other Providers Use the reports to assess performance and utilization rates within a specific hospital or nursing home, with partner facilities, or in comparison to others in the region to assess relative safety, quality, and affordability. Apply this information to contract negotiations, identify areas to improve, and highlight top performers who use best practices from which others can learn. Individual physicians and other health professionals can assess quality in hospitals with which they are affiliated, and see how utilization is changing over time (trends). Policymakers Use the reports to assess important aspects of hospital and nursing home safety, quality, patient experience, cost, and utilization. Use the information to focus attention on areas where improvement is needed, including identifying where the inpatient and the ambulatory care system might be underperforming, plus opportunities to reduce the overall cost of care in the region. Assess how health care utilization is changing over time (trends). Focus attention on a high priority policy by easily sharing the safe surgery infographic to inform others on local safety rates, plus facts about prevalence, risk, and cost. 5
