Algae does not reduce CO 2 because any CO 2 taken out of the atmosphere by the algae is returned when the Algae is burned. Algae doesn’t affect fresh water resources. It can be produced using ocean and wastewater is biodegradable and relatively harmless to the environment if spilled. However the production of the algae requires fertilizers, which emit nitrous oxide.

They cultivate algae and take the oil it produces to create algae fuel Solzyme demonstrated its algae-based fuel in a diesel car. Late last year, the company received a $2 million grant from the National Institute of Standards and Technology to develop a substitute for crude oil based on algae. Solzyme has also produced a fuel suitable for powering jet aircraft from algae Algae is still being researched so it has yet to be our number one fuel source.

Biofuel is made in two ways: grown from the fermented sugars and carbohydrates found in plants, or made from the oils found in plants It can be made a replacement of fossil fuel It doesn’t add to carbon emissions nor take away The land for the biofuel fields takes away from the forests harming both plant and animal life
6
The production and use of biofuels is steadily increasing but is not a large enough industry as of yet to fully replace fossil fuels Research is still being conducted so we do not have it as the number one source of energy
