3 Hold Short instructions Have you recently been issued "hold short" instructions by a Control Tower and you acknowledged with just your "N" number or even worse, the infamous "roger"? What happens next is the controller tries to get you to say the proper response. All the Airport Traffic Control Towers have been mandated to emphasize the use of proper radio phraseology concerning "hold short" instructions as stated in the AIM. Always use your "N" number or call sign when acknowledging ATC clearances/instructions.

11 Some cold facts about ice New ice is usually stronger than old ice. Ice seldom freezes uniformly. Ice formed over flowing water and currents is often dangerous. The insulating effect of snow slows down the freezing process. Booming and cracking ice isn't necessarily dangerous. Schools of fish or flocks of waterfowl can also adversely affect the relative safety of ice. – Ref: MN DNR

12 Holiday Light Safety

13 Holiday Lights Indoors or outside, use only lights that have been tested for safety. Identify these by the label from an independent testing laboratory. Check each set of lights, new or old, for broken or cracked sockets, frayed or bare wires, Fasten outdoor lights securely to protect from wind damage. Use no more than three standard-size sets of lights per single extension cord. Turn off all lights on trees and other decorations when you go to bed Never use electric lights on a metallic tree. The tree can become charged with electricity from faulty lights

15 Reminder!! Safety Survey must be completed not later than 31 January Each item must be answered. – Include comments in the "Remarks" section, if the answer to a question is NO or N/A. – NO answers must have an Expected Completion Date. Survey will be automatically sent to the unit’s commander and the safety officer/commander at the next echelon. Commanders or safety officer at the next higher echelon will review/comment. Safety mishap investigations are intended to create a positive learning experience and generate awareness. The purpose of this survey is to gain information about your unit's awareness and may or may not have regulatory basis for the questions asked.
