The Age of Invention Late 1800’s
Essential Question: How did the inventions of the late 1800’s revolutionize society? Think this question through as we look at different inventions from this period.

The Telephone In 1876 Alexander Graham Bell invented the telephone.
This was the first device to transmit speech rather than codes (telegraph). Businesses were the first to use phones.

The Lightbulb Developed by Thomas Edison in 1879.
He also developed power plants to supply electric power. Eventually resulted in light and electric power in homes

The Camera Invented in 1888 by George Eastman.
User could take 100 pictures and send them back to the company for development. Affected everyday life.

The Model T Henry Ford began building gasoline powered engines in the late 1890’s. In 1908, the Model T was introduced. Quickly replaced horses as the main mode of transportation.

The typewriter (1868) – later lead to the keyboard/computer Adding machine (1888)-later lead to calculators Vacuum cleaner (1899)
