1. Group Project North and South Newspapers

2. Purpose: As a group, you will create a newspaper that would appear during this time period leading up to the Civil War – the division between our country: North vs. South. You will need to learn about your specific region (north or south) in order to write in its PERSPCTIVE during this time in history!

3. Jobs: There are 5 jobs to select from, please read over their descriptions carefully. Afterwards – consider 1 or 2 jobs that are of interest to you….. You will get into your group and then decide the roles/jobs for everyone.

4. Editor: Cover Story Editorial Duties Layout Group Management This person will be in charge of editing (proofreading) all of the articles that go into the newspaper. They will assist group members in note-taking and helping steer away from “writer’s block” They will also have final say in the layout of the newspaper. (appearance)

5. Economic Advisor: Economic Article Transportation Article *Possibly assist editor This person will be in charge of 2 articles: one discussing your regions economy (how they make $) and the other article sharing your regions main mode of transportation.

6. Society Reporter: Regional Homes Upcoming Social Events/Fashion *Possibly assists editor This person will be in charge of 2 articles as well. The first one will be about the homes or living situations of your region. The second article will be about a major upcoming event (in your region) or a trend in fashion.

7. Meteorologist: Weather forecast Geography Report/Article *Possibly assists the editor This person will, wait for it, also be in charge of one, 7-day forecast (see teacher) for the newspaper AND will also be in charge of writing one article about your region’s geography (land).

8. Presidential Press Corp: Lincoln/Davis Article Political Cartoon *Possibly assists editor This person will be charge of writing an article about either Lincoln (North) or Davis (South) as the 2 will soon me leading those regions/countries. They will also create a political cartoon on a historical or political event in your region. (drawing ability REQUIRED!!! NO STICK PEOPLE!!!! )

9. Task Line-up (Do in order!!) 1). Assign Group Jobs 2). Select Article Topics 3). Gather Sources/Note taking 4). Rough Drafts – (editor checks) 5). Final Articles/Layout Design 6). Final Draft / Fillers

10. Final Note: I (your teacher) will check in with your group on a daily basis to make sure your questions and concerns are addressed! Make sure YOU do your part in creating an amazing newspaper!
