Philly Preparing for Pope
2
Pope Francis has left Washington DC, will have a busy day today in New York, and then will head to Philadelphia. Nearly 18,000 delegates from across the world are in Philadelphia eagerly awaiting the arrival of the pontiff. Pope Francis became the first Pope to address the U.S. Congress on Thursday in an emotional speech that focused on immigration, the death penalty, racial injustice, the weapons trade and poverty. On Friday, he'll face the United Nations in a speech focused more on international concerns. Perhaps the biggest focus of his six-day visit to the United States will be his visit to Philadelphia this weekend for a meeting of Catholics called the World Meeting of Families. As a result, the mayor, police, Philadelphia school district, FBI, and other organizations have worked around the clock to create an incident free environment.

In Other News A series of lunar events will occur Sunday evening. The United States and much of the world will see skies graced by a bright, big moon that will be encapsulated in a total lunar eclipse late Sunday evening. This lunar combination is happening for the first time in 30 years. The supermoon, which comes around once every year, will appear 14% larger and 30% brighter in the sky that evening before it is engulfed by an eclipse for more than an hour. A lunar eclipse will coincide with the supermoon on Sept. 27 at around 9:05 p.m. This supermoon, also called a harvest moon due to its occurrence falling at the beginning of the autumn season, will have an extra characteristic. Known as a blood moon, the moon will pass behind the Earth into its shadow, resulting in a red tint across its surface. The supermoon portion of the eclipse should last over an hour or so, reaching totality at 10:47 p.m. Bayern Munich striker Robert Lewandowski set a new Bundesliga record by scoring five goals in just nine minutes against Wolfsburg on Tuesday, firing the German champions into a comfortable lead after being introduced as a half-time substitute.
