5. Imperialism The process where countries capture or take control of other lands around the world.

6. Joint Stock Company A group of investors that give money to a project in order to make a profit.

7. Charter An agreement made between investor and colonist on the way the colony will operate.

8. Proprietary Colony A colony owned by one person. William Penn owned Pennsylvania so he was the proprietor.

9. Mercantilism The mother country makes a profit from her colonies’ businesses.

10. Pilgrims Anyone who comes from far away.

11. Indentured Servant A person that promises service to a family or individual in return for passage to the New World.
