2 Do Now Scenario  You find a note book in the hallway. You open it up to look for a name and you find that its Timmy’s notebook from you World History class. You open up to the back of the book and see messages scattered over the back page. “I hate school,” “I hate my life,” “Steve is a jerk and if he keeps pushing me in the hall and picking on me the locker room,” “I am tired of it all, so unhappy.”

3 Conflict Resolution Review What is a conflict?  Struggle between or among people resulting from incompatible or opposing needs, wishes or demands. Arise?  Family, Friends, work and social relationships How do you resolve a conflict?  Non Violent effective communication between the people involved  Identify- Understand each point of view- Explore solutions - Determine a solution and method  Peer mediation – third person

4 Bullying Bullying defined - unlike isolated conflicts between individuals, occurs when a student or group of students targets an individual repeatedly over time, using physical or psychological aggression to dominate the victim. Bullying is  Repeated  Intentional  Used to create an imbalance of power

5 Bullying Types(Direct) Physical - Hitting, Pushing, Property destruction, Shoving Verbal - Taunting, Teasing, Name Calling Non-Verbal - Gestures, Staring, Spatial invasion

6 Bullying(Indirect) Physical  getting another person to assault someone Verbal  Spreading rumors about a person Non Verbal  Excluding a person from a group

7 Cyber bullying What is it? How many of you have facebook? How many of you seen messages or experienced anything on the web that can categorize as bullying? 47% of older youth 18-24 have been cyber bullied
