3 IN GENERAL CREDIT FOR A clear and fair admissions policy Promotion of international-mindedness Communication based on understanding and respect Academic honesty policy Adequate resourcing for the programme Adequate IT facilities Effective guidance through the DP

4 AND… Addressing the aims and objectives of each subject Support for active learning Reflection on learning process Communicating the assessment philosophy, policy and procedures

5 LEAST IMPRESSIVE… Promoting action within and beyond the school community Utilizing resources of the local community to enhance learning Addressing the diversity of language needs Using a variety of strategies to assist learning

6 INTERNAL ASSESSMENT Students produce internal assessment in all subjects – typically worth 20-30% final grade

7 ASSESSED WORK IN Y1 ASSESSED WORK IN Y1 Group 4 project (10 hours) Internal assessment in History/Business and Management 60% CAS record First Math, English and äidinkieli submissions Good start on the EE

8 ASSESSED WORK IN Y2 Oral presentations in languages Written assignments in languages TOK presentations and essay Lab reports in the sciences Science and maths investigations 40% CAS Submission of the Extended Essay

9 FEEDBACK ON PROGRESS FEEDBACK ON PROGRESS Numerical feedback from periods II and V in Y1 and period II in Y2 Periodic written comments (x 2 so far) Mock exams in March 2016 Final exams in May 2016

10 POLICY ON RE-TESTS Students are currently required to gain at least a grade 3 at HL or 2 at SL in course tests In 2015-16 this criteria is tightening up to: Grade 4 at HL and grade 3 at SL Those failing to make the grade must take a re-test at the earliest opportunity Students failing to make the grade will have their progress put under review

11 PREDICTED GRADES UCAS predictions are needed in October (Oxbridge) or January ( all the rest). These predictions are based on test results in Y1 and Y2 tests Finnish university predictions are needed in April. These predictions are based on results in the mocks + internal assessments

12 Each subject has grading scale 1 – 7 7High quality work with insight and originality 6High quality work with occasional insight and.. 5 Solid overall performance 4 Fair general performance 3 Limited achievement 2 Very limited achievement 1 Minimal achievement

13 IB DIPLOMA Maximum of 42 subject points available EE and TOK combined are worth 3 points Diploma calculated out of 45 points Threshold to pass = 24 points Above average diploma = 30+ “Good universities” require 35+

14 IB DIPLOMA At least grade 2 in every SL subject At least grade 3 at HL At least 24 points overall At least grade D in both EE and TOK Completion of the CAS programme (Submission of all assessed items)

15 POLICY ON DEADLINES Students who miss a deadline for the internally assessed work will: Speak with the coordinator about the problem Sign a declaration to the effect that in the event of further deadlines being missed the work will NOT be forwarded to IB for assessment Counter-signed by parents for those <18
