DESIGN PROJECT INTRODUCTION  A project that must be completed by final year students as a requirement to receive the bachelor of engineering degree.  2 semesters (ERT 416 & ERT 422) are provided to complete all the tasks by referring to each semester syllabus.  Students are expected to do their work independently most of the time, but their progress will be monitored closely by their supervisors.  Students need to document their work in a thesis which must be hard bounded and submitted to the school (combination of ERT 416 & ERT 422).

DESIGN PROJECT OBJECTIVES This course contains the preliminary design of bioprocess plant. It focuses on process creation, simulation to assist in process reation and heuristic for process analysis, synthesis of process equipment design. Simulation Software will be the main feature and implemented through out the course in the process flow sheeting and equipment design.

COURSE OUTCOME 1.Able to apply engineering principles to design unit operations in bioprocesses plant based on stoichiometry, thermodynamics, separation and reaction engineering principles. 2.Able to justify, recommend and design a suitable unit operation in a bioprocess plant based on process involved. 3.Able to apply modern simulation software to solve unit operations design and create the Process Flow Diagram (PFD) for bioprocess plant.

TEACHING PLAN * Note : Please refer to Teaching Plan. No.Week.CONCLUSION 1.1-14Lecture class. 2.2Title will be given to all the students. 3.7Submission 1 : “Proposal Report” 4.11Submission 2 : “Synthesis and Design Process Report” 5.14Submission 3 : “Final Design Report” 6.15 - 16“Oral Presentation” 7.8 & 13“ Midterm Test 1 & 2”.

PEER EVALUATION Assessment Name of Team Members ABCDE Average role in group activities/displayed initiative (10m) Information gathering skills (10m) Enthusiasm towards the project, energy exhibited (10m) Reliability, dependability to perform assigned tasks (10m) Quality and accuracy of work, attendance, punctuality (10m) Communication skills and creativity (10m) [this part need to be filled by supervisor] TOTAL ( 60m)  This mark will be encountered in Sub 1 &2.

SUMMMARY OF GRADING SCHEME Evaluation by Supervisor/ Examiner (60%) Presentation / Examination (40%) Final Grade 100% Continuous evaluation (20%) Final Project Report (40%) Total Marks 60% Oral presentation Midterm Test 1 & 2 Total Marks 40% Sub 1 Sub 2 From Supervisor External Examiner 10% 30%20%

REWARD  Reward in the form of “school certificate” will be given to the best design projects, which is the first place winner, second and third.  The assessment will be determined based on the combination of both Design Project 1 (ERT 416) and Design Project 2 (ERT 422).  Benefits: Students can use this certificate for applying job after finish study in UniMAP.

Students are highly encouraged to maintain a separate file or folder to compile all their findings/sketches/printouts/ datasheets as a complement to the log book. This can be used as evidence to support the claims as written in the logbook. LOG BOOK & FILE/FOLDER

Always bring these 2 items when meeting your supervisor 1)LOG BOOK 2)FILE/FOLDER SUGGESTION

“Plagiarism is the unauthorized use or close imitation of the language and thoughts of another author and the representation of them as one's own original work.” (Source: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Plagiarism) PLAGIARISM

 Students who are caught plagiarizing other people’s work can fail their Design Project if there are enough evidence.  Evidence can be found relatively easy now by using several software tools such as: Internet Search Engines Directories Online book reviews Anti-plagiarism software PLAGIARISM
