1 Renewable Energy Skills Strategy SSC Collaborative Findings June 2010 Methodology

2 Purpose To identify the skills requirements to support the deployment of renewables Who is involved? Energy and Utility SkillsSummitSkills Cogent Semta Asset Skills Construction Skills LantraECITB This analysis is being undertaken in a 3 stage process: Skills Analysis Supply side analysis Gap Analysis This phase of the project is due for completion in June 2010

3 The aim of the skills analysis is to identify which job roles are required to enable the deployment of Renewables. The following categories of roles have been considered: New Renewables roles (Roles created by the deployment of Renewables) Existing Energy Roles impacted by the deployment of Renewables Significant increase in numbers due to Renewables (skills may not change) New responsibilities or knowledge required to support Renewables (up- skilling) Currently identified skills shortage that will be exacerbated by Renewables Critical specialists, lead time for training significant, numbers may be small The training courses and qualifications which support these job roles have been identified along with providers offering the courses. The following slides illustrate the steps involved in the analysis. Scope of the Job Roles analysis

4 Initial Data Collection SSCs / SSBs complete templates highlighting typical roles, key functions and qualification levels. Database of job roles Database ordered by role showing: Key functions Qualification levels Summary by typical roles Summary of typical roles by: Technology Section of the supply chain Identification of priority roles Using a risk assessment based approach to ranking. Quantification of priority roles Based on scenarios and critical event analysis. Metrics take account of timing and volume. Key Messages Report Geographic Map Action Plans
