2 Learners and Learning Environment Learners: Are 12th grade Heath Education class students attending Kapolei High School Learning Environment: Classes are 50 minutes in duration Students will work in groups of 5 Classroom desks are arranged in group round circles comprised of 5 desks per group Class have internet capability and six computers stations for students use Rules and Management: Students will respect their fellow classmates and share classroom computer resources

3 Content - Curricular Relevance Purpose To educate graduating high school seniors who will soon leave to college and be soly responsible for their own nutrition about the importance of a balance diet and the effects of obesity on the human body. Content standards - HE.9-12.1.3 This lesson teaches students to identify how personal health behaviors such as maintaining a balance diet, good nutrition, or obesity can positively or negatively impact body system functions

4 Content - Learning Objectives Students will learn the components of a balanced diet to include the 5 food groups and recommended food portions to build a balanced diet plan. Students will know the definition of obesity and how it affects the human body systems.

7 Pedagogy - Methods Student learning will occur thru:  Teacher facilitated classroom instruction  Guest Speaker from Dept. of Health  Group discussions and online research about nutrition, a balanced diet, and obesity Teacher will provide additional assistance to students with special needs. To demonstrate deeper learning:  Students will apply newly learned knowledge when building their balanced diet recommendation and obesity summary PowerPoint slide.

8 Pedagogy – Student Outcomes Students will demonstrate knowledge of material thru:  Actively participating in classroom and group discussions  Complete mini-research summary  Successfully completing final assessment  Peer feedback on group assignment Technology application:  Complete group assignment Creating an appropriate balanced diet plan and obesity summary and posting to the web using Microsoft PowerPoint and Voice Thread
