4 45cm 90cms Broad central portion covered with thick plastic plate on which baby lies on its back Sliding panel on which baby’s leg rests Foldable foot plate on which baby’s foot rests Foldable head plate on which top of baby’s head rests Tape for measuring baby’s length

5 Baby comfortably lying on the infantometer

6 Head positioned correctly against head board

7 Feet are positioned vertically against foot board

8 Even a single person can correctly position the baby for measurement

9 Infant being measured – head vertical against the head plate; back straight on the infantometer; knees straightened and foot positioned vertically against the foot plate

10 Baby comfortably relaxed after measurement is completed

11 Length of the baby is 63 cms Length is the reading on the tape on the edge of the central sliding panel

12 Baby’s head being positioned

13 Head has been positioned and knees are straightened. The baby has slightly bowed legs (indicated by arrows). This is normal in young babies and cannot be straightened

14 Error – foot not resting on the foot plate

15 Inspite of baby’s legs being slightly bowed, the foot is correctly resting on the foot plate
