Symbol An object, person, or event that functions as itself, but also stands for something more than itself. Has a symbolic meaning –Example: Scales function is to weigh things, but they are also a symbol of our justice system.

Example Faction Choice 3.8 Paragraph 1. TS: If going through a Choosing Ceremony, I would choose the Abnegation faction. 2. SS: Abnegation was the result of my aptitude test. 3. EX: Though I would feel comfortable in several of the factions, according to the test, I am most suited for Abnegation. 4. SS: I am often more concerned with the well being of others than of myself. 5. EX: I am willing to make sacrifices if it means that others will be benefitted. 6. SS: Some people see me as difficult to get to know, but also as gentle and kind. 7. EX: It sometimes takes a while for people to see my whole personality, but most people immediately view me as compassionate and caring. 8. CS: Based on these and other factors, I would choose the Abnegation faction.
