Restaurants: Find someone who… Get up and try to find someone who… Thinks McDonald’s has good food Likes Japanese food Prefers Thai food to Chinese food Likes very spicy food Doesn’t like spicy food at all Has never eaten a hamburger Has never ordered food in English

What is the restaurant like? Brainstorm! Write down words related to food and restaurants ◦ What adjectives describe food? ◦ What adjectives describe restaurants? ◦ What are some restaurant features you look for? ◦ Try to think of some unusual words You have 5 minutes starting… NOW! STOP! Pick 3 words you think are unusual ◦ Try to get words the other groups don’t have

Which restaurant is it? What’s your favorite restaurant like? Write 3 “It is… (descriptions, adjectives)” Write 3 “It has… (things, nouns)” Now get up and talk to 3 students: Tell him/her your answers Let them guess the restaurant name Switch!

Restaurants and food: Do you know…? Try to answer these questions about Restaurants What is a tip? How much money is good to leave for a waiter? Where did spicy peppers originally come from? How many customers have been served by McDonald’s? What are the world’s 3 most popular drinks? What is the world’s most popular soft drink? What are ‘hors-d’oeuvres’? And the answers are: Money from customers for the waiter 10%-20% of the total bill All peppers originated in the Americas 245 billion (March 2010. More now) Water, tea, beer Coca-cola (also, 2 nd most recognized English word) Appetizers, or a small amount of food served first

Restaurant Homework Use it! Pick an American (or Western) restaurant Invite several Wall Street friends along (including that cute guy/girl at the next table) ◦ Decide on a date, time and location ◦ Decide where to meet Order all of your food at the restaurant in English Challenge: speak only English for the entire meal!
