Prior to class students should have: Selected a “sitter’ for a portrait Acquired a reference photo or photos of their chosen sitter. Students who fail to select their own sitter will be paired off with classmates and any odd-man-out will have to caricature me Watched one of several recommended videos about caricature technique and theory

Expectations The artwork should tell the viewer something about the personality of the person in the portrait (sitter). The artist should use simplification and/or exaggeration to create a cartoon portrait. The artwork should achieve a resemblance to the sitter using: Recognizable physical features Symbolic props Clothing or costuming

Getting This Party Caricature Stated! 1. Plan your concept; the overall idea, not just the drawing the face. Be loose at this stage!! 2. Move on to more detailed sketches of face, gesture, and props. Think about style! 3. Get classmate feedback on your progress 4. Create your finished solution 5. We’ll test your solutions to see if you have all effectively portrayed your sitters.
