3 INNOVATION & COMMUNITY IMPACTS Goals:  Make community engagement a core part of education at Covenant University  Formulate a comprehensive concept and vision for community engagement  Strongly connect community engagement programmes and projects to research and educational strengths  Promote stronger collaborations and partnerships.  Ensure that research outputs turn into income  Develop rigorous evaluation systems for monitoring all outreach programmes

4 INNOVATION & COMMUNITY IMPACTS Key Evaluation Metrics and Performance Indicators  Measure of level of use of electronic media and the Internet to deliver community engagement programmes.  Measure of the success level of harmonization of all community engagement programmes.  Measure of the number and quality (viability) of existing partnerships with stakeholders.  Measure of the number and quality (viability) of new partnerships with stakeholders following community engagement programmes.  Measure of the level (impacts) of changes to our host community.

5 INNOVATION & COMMUNITY IMPACTS Key Evaluation Metrics and Performance Indicators Cont’d  Number of new relationships formed and older ones that have become strengthened as a result of research innovations.  Generate and display data on technology transfer (e.g. Number of patents and licensing).  Number of business outlets resulting from community engagement efforts.  Measure of the number and quality (viability) of business outlets set up as a result of the innovations from the University.

6 INNOVATION & COMMUNITY IMPACTS Projections  Immediately formulate a comprehensive policy on concept, vision, scope and objectives to guide these activities and ensure a focused drive of all activities relating to innovation and community impacts in the university.  Sustain the achieved targets and further drive the assimilation of the culture of community engagement in educational delivery and learning as already instituted in the university through programmes like town-gown interactions and the expanded SIWES and SWEP programmes for all levels.  Evolve, a Faculty industry attachment programme that will expand the faculty perception and delivery should be instituted. This can be achieved with the sabbatical-like programme.  .

7 INNOVATION & COMMUNITY IMPACTS Projections Cont’d  Expand the exchange programmes for the students and faculty to include not only schools, but also the industry aboard.   Institute a clear road-map on the evolution of research and research outputs into tangible market products for income generation, while servicing existing and emerging challenges.   Pursue exhaustively the industry-university partnership and related programmes. 
