Aims and Objectives Produce a multi lingual audio visual illustration of Breast Screening the Facts/Breast Awareness to address the variation in uptake across the seven screening sites Educate women of all ages about breast screening and breast awareness in order to increase uptake Reduce health inequalities Inform women about the South Birmingham Breast Screening Service Paper to Plasma

DVD Production: Talking Heads and Breast MOT The script was based on the five point code of breast awareness The Breast MOT – the sequence and script were based on Breast Screening the Facts. The Talking Heads – women of various ages recruited from within the unit Simon Edwards, Video Manager UHB NHS FT arranged the animation and translation of scripts into the following languages: Gujarati, Urdu, Punjabi and Bengali The DVD went live on the Invision Screens( 60 in total) in surgeries and health centres on November 24 th, 2009 with thanks to Ritchie Brett, SBPCT

Paper to Plasma The Concept Came from the multicultural screening population covered by South Birmingham. DVD based on fact rather than personal experience To include Breast Awareness and Breast Screening Animated illustration rather than real women

Paper to Plasma Cost of Production The cost of production were as follows: DVD £3,500.00 Language Translations £2,500.00 DVD copies (100) £150.00 Survey Costs £2,700.00 Total £8,850.00

Responses o 82% of respondents completed the survey Paper to Plasma Total No of Responses received = 815 Quarantined = 307 Valid Responses = 508

Future provision questionnaire Paper questionnaire sent out in 2009 to determine future service requirements. 700 questionnaires distributed 23%response rate (targeted). Plasma project 62% response ( non targeted)

Learning outcomes The DVD format was well received and captured the attention of population in South Birmingham. We identified areas that we can make improvements: We were able to communicate to our current as well as the future screening population. Work more closely with GP practices to improve awareness of screening locations Change perceptions by continuing to educate women from all walks of life on breast awareness and the process of screening Consider re-working the DVD to be spoken in different languages Paper to Plasma
