Preparing for the first day of school: Routines: BEGIN REGULAR ROUTINES ON THE FIRST DAY!! Apple Name Tag: Please check the name, address, and incoming/outgoing bus information and make any changes tonight. Inform the teacher of any changes as well. Please have your child wear their apple name tag to school the WHOLE FIRST WEEK. Bus Schedule: Check the hcpss website or signs posted in the hallway. See an administrator with any questions or concerns.

Emergency Procedure Cards for 2015-16 Family File Opened Monday, August 17th Family File is replacing the Emergency Procedure Card and can be found by logging in to HCPSS Connect. In the Family File section parents will find all of the information historically located on the Emergency Procedure Cards such as contact information, medical considerations, and preferences. http://www.hcpss.org/connect/

Emergency Procedure Cards for 2015-16 Beginning on August 17 when parents log in through HCPSS Connect, there will be a link directing them to the Family File section. If you encounter any problems logging in or accessing Family File, please contact the school. Once logged in, parents will be able to provide or update all of their contact information, medical considerations, and preferences in approximately 10 minutes.

For existing parents, data will be populated from last year When you log in for the first time. For more information, please see the attached sheet on Family File. Find Family File at http://www.hcpss.org/connect. **Please be sure to update or complete this information as soon as possible for your child's safety. We must be able to contact you quickly in the event of an emergency involving your child. We appreciate your help.

HSES uses a school-wide behavior incentive called - Class Dojo. https://www.classdojo.com/https://www.classdojo.com/ All of the teachers that work with your child will be able to give your child a positive or negative incentive in addition to comments. You will receive an invitation during the first week of school to log into your child’s account. More information to come! In addition, each homeroom class will learn the HSES pledge…3 R’s. Daily Folders Check, Empty and Return Each Day Notes MUST go in the folder There is a student ID and a lunch ID number.

Homework: *Monthly newsletter will be sent home beginning in September. * Homework is optional, but strongly encouraged. * Read to your child or have your child read to you each night.

The kindergarten classes will take a few field trips during the school year. Please look for field trip information in the kindergarten monthly newsletter.

We love volunteers!! Please let your child’s teacher know if you would be able to volunteer. If interested, your child’s teacher will contact you in October once routines have been established.

You should have received a school supply list when you registered your child at HSES. http://hses.hcpss.org/messages/supply-lists You can bring your child’s supplies on Friday when you visit the classroom during kindergarten orientation.

Students will have a 30 minute recess each day before their lunch. We will go outside unless the temperature drops below 35 degrees. Please make sure you dress your child appropriately and we encourage children to wear sneakers. During days that it is raining or too cold the students will have games, movies, or manipulatives inside. Each class will have P.E. three times a week.

60% of Students come to Kindergarten with the cognitive skills needed to be successful. 40% of students come to Kindergarten with the social/emotional skills needed to be successful.
