Any two people share an average of 99.9% of their DNA, meaning that only 0.1% of your DNA is unique to you! The only exception is identical twins, who share 100% of their DNA. Our unique DNA, 0.1% of 3 billion, amounts to 3 million base pairs. DNA is present in all evidence, including blood, hair, skin, saliva, and semen.
3
DNA can be amplified to study by using PCR. People related by blood have even fewer differences so if it similar but not exact you can look for relatives of the suspect. Human error for cases is an issue, because there are many precautions, but it can never be eliminated.
4
It is easier to exclude a suspect and to convict a suspect with evidence. DNA is one of the many types of evidence, but you need more then one type of evidence to prove someone guilty.
5
In order to use DNA to find out who it is, you need enough of it to do anything. If you don’t have enough then, you can use PCR (Polymerase Chain Reaction) to make more. And use electrophoresis to identify the differences.
