Pouring molten or melted metal into a mold or form.

Pattern -The shape that is duplicated, used to create mold -Permanent pattern -Non permanent pattern

Mold -The form in which the molten metal is poured into -Sand mold -Plaster mold -Die mold

Sand Casting -Casting process where a bonded sand is used form the mold -Petro bond – oil sand -Green sand – water sand

Lost form casting The pattern is lost in the casting process

Permanent Mold Casting Where the mold used is reusable

Centrifugal casting Spin casting – the mold is spun forcing the melted metal into the mold

Lost Wax Casting Plaster mold casting where the wax pattern is melted out and the liquid metal is poured into the mold

Vacuum casting The mold is set up in a vacuum and the liquid metal is sucked into the mold

Crucible Container that the metal is melted in.

Pyrometer Instrument that measures the temperature of liquid metal

Slag Waste or bi-product produced when metal is melted

Flask Container that is used to make a sand mold, made up of two parts: Cope = Top half of the flask Drag = Bottom half of the flask

Riddle Sand casting tool used to sift/clean the sand before making the mold
