Mathematical Relationships: Identities and Participation My journey by Sally Where did I start from? I am a mathematician I am a mathematician pupils in inner city Nottingham pupils in inner city Nottingham post 16 level one learners post 16 level one learners I came to this series hoping to understand how these students see themselves in relation to maths and to find ways of building positive identities.

3 Where am I now – where next? Started wanting to understand my students better, now I am more interested in my fellow teachers how do they discover the identities they allow in their classrooms… how do they discover the identities they allow in their classrooms… what roles do teachers see as open to them – how can we broaden their choices what roles do teachers see as open to them – how can we broaden their choices What is a successful maths lesson / maths teacher The journey continues ……..
