Job 22

Eliphaz Eliphaz kicks off Round 3 We build bigger, better stadiums But not for debates! Athletics outdraw academics Academics ought to be stressed

Job 22 Eliphaz Very few of us play football But all of us are in arena of life All of us are in spiritual battle Unimportant to most people But all are in spiritual battle Happening right now

Job 22 Eliphaz Had the remarkable experience Strange, mysterious vision Spiritualist who “has seen”

Job 22 Eliphaz Job 22:1-2 Suggests man does not benefit God Suggests that Job is worthless Suggests God is restraining Job Otherwise Job too strong for God This theory is off target

Job 22 Eliphaz Job 22:1-2 Not comforting to suffering Job Job needs help, light from heaven Some church folk fit Eliphaz' bill

Job 22 Eliphaz “Some folk seem to think they make a real contribution to God down here and that He is rather fortunate to have them on His team. They seem to think that when they get to heaven, heaven will be really improved because of who they are.”

Job 22 Eliphaz “We need to recognize that man is not profitable to God. We are all unprofitable, which means we are like a bunch of spoiled fruit. Jesus told a parable about service and He concluded,”

Job 22 Eliphaz “So you also, when you have done everything you were told to do, should say, 'We are unworthy servants; we have only done our duty.' (Luke 17:10)”

Job 22 Eliphaz Job 22:3 Job's friends sense chink in armor But their diagnosis is incorrect They do not know the remedy Unable to comfort or help him

Job 22 Eliphaz “The fact that Job claims to be a righteous man doesn't cause God to jump up and down with glee and throw His hat into the air. I have a feeling that there are a great many professing Christians who rest so much upon themselves and who they are...”

Job 22 Eliphaz “that they really are not trusting Christ. Let me emphasize that we bring no pleasure to the Almighty because we have been good little Sunday school boys and have pins for perfect attendance.”

Job 22 Eliphaz “A great many folk think that the Lord is delighted with that sort of thing. I don't think so. We need to recognize our utter dependence upon God – our great need of Him.”

Job 22 Eliphaz “We are to be looking to Him instead of trying to impress Him with who we are and what we are doing.”

Job 22 Eliphaz Job 22:4 Is God afraid of you, Job? Does He have to rein you in? Clearly God was not afraid of Job Job is having a very rough time

Job 22 Eliphaz Job 22:5-7 Very mean accusation Can't find anything really wrong Starts to manufacture reasons Spins a yarn out of a little thread Says Job is wicked

Job 22 Eliphaz Job 22:8-11 Implies Job did these things And now word is getting out Warns God's taking note of all this

Job 22 Eliphaz Job 22:12-14 Thinks Job thinks God doesn't see Says Job isn't getting past God Premise is that Job has secret sin

Job 22 Eliphaz Job 20:15-17 Points out how wicked think That they don't need God

Job 22 Eliphaz Job 22:18-21 Says there will be justice Invites Job to submit to God Doesn't apply to Job Job already has submitted to God

Job 22 Eliphaz Job 22:21 “It is like many of the invitations given in churches today – there sits a congregation of redeemed folk (at least they think they are saved), and an invitation for salvation is given.”

Job 22 Eliphaz Job 22:21 “It is almost meaningless in such circumstances and borders on the ridiculous.”

Job 22 Eliphaz Job 22:21 Even though not applicable to Job It is a good invitation for unsaved Lord Jesus makes same invitation “Come unto me” (Mat. 11:28)‏ The way to have peace w God

Job 22 Eliphaz Romans 5:1 “Therefore being justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ.”

Job 22 Eliphaz Job 22:21 Good comes from submit to God Sometimes that means discipline But not in Job's case He has been disciplined enough!

Job 22 Eliphaz Job 22:22-23 Just keeps harping on same old Must be some secret sin Confess it & turn to God As though Job doesn't know God Not true

Job 22 Eliphaz Job 22:24-30 Assumes God is Job's enemy God is not Job's enemy Many people stumble on this point

Job 22 Eliphaz “This is an attitude which is still one of the greatest deterrents in the preaching of the gospel. Men are sinners – this should be made very clear – but God today is not at emnity with this world.”

Job 22 Eliphaz “You and I don't need to do anything to reconcile God; Christ did this for us. God is reconciled and has His arms outstretched to a lost world, saying,”

Job 22 Eliphaz “'You can come to Me, but you must come My way. You must come by the One who told you 'I am the way, the truth, and the life. No man comes unto the Father but by Me.'' If you come His way, you can come with boldness into the presence of God.”

Job 22 Eliphaz “God will meet you with a great welcome and abundance of spiritual blessing.” Eliphaz not representing God well No help or comfort to Job
