Page Number: 7/18 EDI and XML n Business conduct e-commerce transactions through standards such as: n electronic data interchange (EDI) and n the Extensible Markup Language (XML). n EDI is the electronic exchange of structured documents between trading partners. n XML is a markup language for documents containing structured information.

Page Number: 8/18 XML n XML is specifically focused on defining the content of a document, rather than how the data will look. n XML is supported by computing software and hardware companies such as: Sun Microsystems, IBM, Oracle, and Microsoft. n Document content structured with XML can be delivered over the HTTP protocol as easily as HTML.
