Background: spotting the gaps The JISC Portfolio, Course Information and Course Validation Reference Models provide key resources for a service oriented “Web 2.0” approach Portfolio focused on the linear process by which a learner moves from college to university But an initial focus for JISC and Becta is the delivery of lifewide learning in regional projects, for example 14 -19 Specialised Diploma What are the gaps in provision the lifewide process that require identity management services? A Linear Process: From College To University

Regional Perspective Regional Projects are supporting transitions from one stage of education to another and into employment: “Lifelong Learning” They are also supporting simultaneous “lifewide” learning, for example in a college and employment How may the process of applying to HE look to me if I left college aged 17, have worked for a couple of years but now want to apply?

Scenario Planning: Delivery First: to recover reference information about the learner for the learner which enable the learner to construct a profile of him/herself Second; to help the learner integrate what s/he is learning simultaneously in different contexts which enable the learner to develop their profile to meet new goals and challenges This scenario requires the delivery of Identity Management Services:

Regional Partnership ID Services The Scenario: 1.My union Rep tells me that the LLN can help me apply to HE. I meet an advisor who shows me how to use the Partnership e-Portfolio: we discover a suitable course and download the template. How do I get from the initial meeting with an advisor to APPLY? A JISC get Entry Profile web service will be available in December

Regional Partnership ID Services The Scenario: 2.I link stuff in my PassPortfolio into the application but what I really need to do first is find out about my old exam results! PART SOLUTION The Framework for Achievement will provide an on line transcript linked to course information accessed by ULN articulated with HE entry requirements.

Regional Partnership ID Services The Scenario: 2a. I link to an old project in my PassPortfolio but I also need to link in some of the technical drawings I did for my employer (another JISC web service is available in December) PART SOLUTION we need an ID service within the partnership to link in this data ISSUE do employers use educational standard practice to realise this i.e. Shibboleth?

Regional Partnership ID Services The Scenario: 1.My union Rep tells me that the LLN can help me apply to HE. I meet an advisor who shows me how to use the Partnership e-Portfolio: we discover a suitable course and download the template. 2.I use the Profiling Service to recover information from my old portfolios and develop a profile of myself in terms of the entry requirements application 3.My advisor and I chat online on how I can improve the application. 4.I apply! To an HEI 1 day a week + Parity to catch up on some key math. I’m going to need ID services to integrate all this stuff in my developing profile and to review the same thing in different ways for different stakeholders.
