3
PART A: The pressures on libraries and information services, and winds of change
4
Technology has changed the way information is produced, stored and accessed dramatically There is no let up in that trend
5
Computer technology Internet Mobile technologies Augmented Reality, QR codes, the Internet of Things are transforming the information delivery landscape
6
Changing user attitudes, behaviour and needs
7
Concepts such as Knowledge Management, the Knowledge Economy Information Literacy and Transliteracy (the ability to use the wide range of communication platforms we now have at our disposal)
8
Legislation and regulatory requirements Privacy and Data Protection Act legislation is driven by market forces and globalisation as much or more than by ideology New complexities brought about by technologies – not least Social Media Intellectual property is now a key resource – organisations need to comply with the law and know what assets they have in order to be able to exploit them Freedom of Information and the Right to Know Information Management has a key, and growing, role to play in the above Regulators increasingly require Records Manager and Archivist expertise as part of regulatory compliance
9
Need to listen to customer needs and respond effectively and creatively
10
The role of the trusted intermediary with key Information Management expertise is still very much needed, perhaps more than ever Awareness of that need among movers, shakers, budget holders and customers is relatively low
11
