3 one side wins, a treaty is has to abide by the guidelines
When a war is over, and one side wins, a treaty is signed. The losing side has to abide by the guidelines in the treaty. Remember the Treaty of Paris?

4 The treaty that was signed after World War 1 was called
the Treaty of Versailles. It was signed in the Palace of Versailles, located in France.

6 Germany was not happy!

7 1. Germany had to give up 1 million
square miles of land after the war. Some of it was land that it had seized from other countries. Some of the land was divided into new countries.

8 2. Germany was held responsible for World War 1 and was required
to pay the Allies money for damage, loss of life, and costs of the war. This is called paying reparations. This was difficult for Germany. They had to rebuild their country too!

9 3. The German people did not like the new government that was
formed after the war! Other countries did not trust Germany. Germany became isolated.

10 The Treaty of Versailles Said...
Germany must accept FULL responsibility for the war! Germany was not allowed to make or export weapons. Germany had to give up many of its territories (land). Germany had to pay countries hurt by the war!
