7. Atlantic Canada Beluga Whale Between 1983 – 1999, 27 % of Beluga Whales in the St. Laurence River had cancer. Industrial pollution is the main cause. Toxins from the industrial plants settle in the rivers bottom and belugas dig in to feed exposing them to contamination. Now, St. Lawrence Beluga is protected under numerous Canadian Federal Acts.

9. Oil Spills Hypothermia: Oil can destroy the ability for fur-bearing mammals to stay warm. Poison: Animals ingest oil when trying to feed themselves.
