Overview Finding a job within your chosen career is one of the most important life choices you will make. You are already laying the groundwork for you career. High School Education College Education Career/job Your salary, and therefore your standard of living, depend on you finding the right job!

How do I know what I want to do? Think about what you are interested in and passionate about… What are your values? Making money vs. doing something you love What are you good at? (aptitudes skills) Take a career interest survey Talk to adults about their careers (+ and -) Explore majors in college….you can change!

Searching for Jobs You graduated college with a Bachelors degree (congratulations)….where’s my job??? Step 1: Develop a resume Highlight your education and experience Sell yourself! You may also have to fill out other paperwork Step 2: Search for job openings Old skool: Newspapers, door-to-door, word of mouth/ know somebody New skool: Internet based, monster.com, idealist.org, company websites, university/ college

Searching for Jobs (cont.) Step 3: The Interview Anticipate questions in advance Explain your resume and experiences Why are you a good fit for this company? Show up on time, speak clearly, dress professionally Say thank you and follow up within a week! Step 4: Accept the job! Make sure your standards are met regarding pay and benefits….but also remember that gaining work experience is more important than anything!
